One-of-a-Kind Slab-Built and Limited Edition Hand-Made Molded Ceramic Sculptures by Janet Bajorek

Janet Bajorek has been creating her captivating and unique ceramic sculptures for over forty years. Each sculpture is a finely detailed world in itself, whether it is one of her abstract pieces, a portrait, or a social commentary. She primarily creates her ceramic pieces by slab building them or slip casting them from a mold she made, then firing, glazing and firing them again. Flasher of Fortune (back view)

34x18x12"
$1,750

"Flasher of Fortune" is built of thin clay slabs that form the hollow figure and base. Bajorek made the piece for a 1996 show on homelessness hosted by Iguana Galleries. It portrays on one side a successful businessman with his trench coat, umbrella, briefcase and the newspaper under one arm. He is standing over a group of buildings, one of which is the stock exchange on Wall Street. As you walk around to the front side of the figure, he becomes a homeless man with a sack of aluminum cans to exchange for a few cents each and a sign reading, "Homeless, will work for food."

Gulf War Pieta

23x18"
$1,750

Bajorek created her "Gulf War Pieta" sculpture during the 1990-91 Gulf War. The head of George H.W. Bush is represented on the lower left of the sculpture and that of Saddam Hussein on the lower right in front of the oil barrels. Grenades, guns, gas masks, tanks, and the stealth bomber are piled with the bodies of the Iraqi people and American and Allied Force soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict. The body of a U.S. soldier is cradled in his mother's arms and covered with the American flag. The artist dedicates this artwork to the mothers who lost their sons and daughters in this so-called "successful war."
